Keep that Chain Lubed

Monday February 20, 2012

There are several different lubes that we like here at Missoula Bicycle Works.  Each can serve a specific purpose, whether it is lubing moving parts on derailleurs, keeping shift mechanisms moving precisely or keeping your chain well lubed and running smooth.

This time of year we see a lot of demand for a good chain lube to keep chains running smooth through the still wet and sometimes grimy weather we have throughout spring time.  People ask us all the time what our favorite lube is.  Our preferred lube, if we had to choose one to do just about everything, is Rock & Roll Gold chain lube.

Rock & Roll makes three different chain lubes - Extreme (blue), Gold, and Absolute Dry (red).  Extreme is is great for your mountain bike or cyclo-cross bike when you are ready to hit the trails.  Absolute Dry is one of the best lubes I have ever used on my road bike but it is only effective when the weather is dry.

So what makes the Rock & Roll Gold special? The Appeal comes from the versatility of the Gold. It is great for a wide variety of conditions, whether wet or dry and it works about as well as the Red or the Blue but in a far wider range of conditions whether wet, dry,  Like all lubricants from Rock & Roll the Gold is formulated to protect and lube your chain while also pulling dirt and grime to the surface of the chain, making it easier to clean.

As with all lubes it is important to wipe off all excess lube that is on the chain.  A chain that is still wet with lube will attract dirt and grime and will wear quickly. On our tips page you will find a brief description of how we do our quick chain lubes here in the shop.
