For the cyclist that has everything
Saturday November 29, 2008Very often this time of year customers ask me what they should get for the cyclist that has everything. A pir of new socks is always a good choice. You can never have too many socks. At least I don't think so. The one thing that I think so many cyclist would really love and that most all of them would benefit from over the long term is a professional bike fit.I have been doing professional bike fits since 1988 and it is remarkable the difference it makes for a cyclist's power, efficiency and most importantly their comfort on the bike. Most folks get new bike, they ride it for a while and make small changes until they feel that they have found a position that they can tolerate. But getting your position on the bike just right it is nearly impossible to do by yourself. Below is a link to recent article that appeared in the New York Times.
Ouch, My Knee Hurts! From the New York Times
But why would a cyclist want a bike fit in the middle of winter when they are more inclined to get out on the skis? Actually the winter - or off season - is the best time of year to dial in your cycling position. A bike fit during the off-season allows the cyclist to slowly readjust to a new position when their riding is not as intense. A bike fit in the middle of the cycling season, especially for a racer who is in the middle of higher intensity or higher volume training, may not be altogether beneficial unless they are experiencing some biomechanical problem.
So if you have not yet purchased that perfect something for the cyclist on your list, you may want to consider a gift certificate for a professional bike fit.
